CRS in Action
Ayelech Degefu Memorial (ADM) School in Bahir Dar is finalizing the construction of 13 new classrooms at a cost of three million Birr to be finalized and ready before the new academic year starting on September. The expansion is aimed at improving student-to-classroom ratio and to respond to the growing demand for our services from the community. Haile and Alem International (HAI) PLC opened and ran two schools in Bahir Dar and Asela since 2000 and 2003 respectively.
The two ADM Schools are named after the mother of Major Haile Gebreselassie, the late Ayelech Degefu. The schools are NON PROFIT MAKING ventures but organized as social enterprises and enormously subsidized by HAI, as part of fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and with the aim of giving back to the community.
Students are enrolled not only with a heavily discounted tuition fees, but also free of charge/free scholarships, especially for those from low-income families. During the 2016/2017 academic year, ADM Schools employed 90 teaching staff and enrolled a combined total of 3,286 students attending in kindergarten, primary, and high school levels.
